George William Moorley was born on 9th February 1894 at Stapleford, he was the son of late John William a joiner and the late Hannah (Susannah) Moorley née Shaw of Stapleford Nottinghamshire.
His father was born in 1872 at Stapleford, he died in 1919 aged 47 yrs, his mother Susannah Shaw was born in 1873 at Stapleford, she died in 1905 aged 32 yrs , they were married on 30th September 1893 at St John's Church, Beeston, they went to have 4 children sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 29 Wellington Street, Staplford, his widowed father John William 39 yrs is a joiner, he is living with his children, Alice 18 yrs no occupation listed, George 17 yrs a railway worker, Annie 11 yrs
George William emigrated to Canada, leaving Liverpool on 31st May 1913, arriving at Quebec on 9th June 1913.
By 1915 when he enlisted he was living at 120 Gilbert Street, Toronto.
Private Goerge William Moorley enlisted on 13th December 1915 at Toronto giving his address as 120 Gilbert Avenue, Toronto, giving his date of birth as 9th February 1894 at Stapleford, England, he was 21 yrs and 10 months old, he was a porter his next of kin was his father John Moorley of 29 Wellington Street, Stapleford, England. He was posted to the 18th battalion Canadian Infantry.
He left Halifax Canada on 8th August 1916 arriving at Liverpool, England on 19th August 1916.
He was killed in action on 27th August 1918, he is buried at Vis-en Artois British Cemetery, Haucourt, France.
