Albert Lineham was born on 29th March 1885 at Scarborough, Yorkshire, he was the son of Francis Raynes Lineham, a watch maker and Eliza Lineham née Trueman of Newark.
His father Francis Raynes was born in 1846 at Newark, he died in 1929 in Victoria British Columbia, Canada his mother Eliza Trueman was born in 1847 at Newark, she died in 1920 in Coquitlam, Vancouver, Canada, they were married on 25th November 1869 at the parish church in Newark, they went on to have 7 children.
The family appears to have emigrated to Canada arriving in 1896
Lieutenant Albert Lineham enlisted on 22nd May 1916 at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, giving his date of birth as 29th March 1885 at Scarborough, England, he was 31 yrs old, he was living at 1027 Fort Street, Victoria, British Columbia, his occupation was that of a 'gentleman,' working in real estate and insurance, he was a methodist, his father was Francis Lineham of 420 St George Street, Victoria British Columbia, he served with the 102nd Battalion Canadian Infantry, he embarked from Halifax on 27th September 1916 arriving at Liverpool on 6th October 1916. Landing in France 12th February 1917, he died of wounds on 10th April 1917, at 6th casualty clearing station,he was buried at Barlin communal cemetery extension, France.
On April 9, 1917 Lt. Lineham was with the 102nd Battalion during the attack on Vimy Ridge. Lt. Lineham was mortally wounded in the attack, and died the following day. He was one of six officers of the 102nd Battalion to die in the attack: four were killed outright and two others (including Lt. Lineham) died of their wounds by the next day. His death is recorded in the 102nd Battalion's War Diary. His Memorial Cross still exists.
