Family history

Loius Bernard Law was born on 8th June 1889 at Sutton on Trent he was baptised on 30th June 1889 at All Saints, Sutton Trent, he was the son of William Law a grocer and the late Maud Alce Law née Woodliffe of 3 Haddon Street Sherwood Nottingham England.

His father William Law a grocer was born in 1857 at Sutton on Trent, his mother Maud Alice Woodliffe was born in 1863 at Alford, Lincolnshire she died in 1902 aged 39 yrs, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded at the Spilsby registration district, they went on to have 8 children.

In the 1911 census he is living at 12 Bright Street, Manchester he is shown as being 21 yrs and is a railway fireman, he is living with his married sister Alice Maud Thomas and her husband Arthur Thomas.

On 26th July 1913 Stafford and two of his brother, Louis Bernard and John Herbert emmigrated to Canada, they left from Avonmouth, Bristol on the ship Royal Edward and arrived at Quebec, Canada on 3rd August 1917.n 1911 he lodged with relatives at Manchester.

Military history

Private Louis Bernard Law enlisted on 25th August 1915 at Halifax, Canada, he served with the Royal Canadian Regiment and was killed in action on 5th June 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.

Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour 22/6/1916:

'Killed in action, June 5th, Private Louis B. Law, late of Nottingham, age 27.'

His brother Lance Corporal Staford Woodliffe Law also served wit the Royal Canadian Regiment, he died on 9th April 1917 and is buried at Thelus Military Cemetery, France,
