John Frederick Green was born on 27th September 1887 at Newark, Nottinghamshire, he was the son of William a council roadman and Ruth Green néé Bowser of 7 Green Lane Handsworth Birmingham.

His father William was born in 1859 at Poplar, London, his mother Ruth Bowser was born in 1859 at Westminste, Middlesex, they were married on 28th Apri 1884 at St Michaels Church, Ladbrook Grove, London, they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1911 census the family wereliving at 7 Green Lane, Handsworth, Birmingham, William Green 52 yrs is a roadman for Handworth Disrict Council, he is living with his wife Ruth 53 yrs and their children, Ruth Margaret 21 yrs a general servant,Clara Gertrude 17 yrs a general servant and Robert Albert 12 yrs of age.

Private John Frederick Green enlisted on 10th September 1914 at Vancouver, Canada, giving his age as 27 yrs and 303 days, he was single and a teamster, his next of kin was his mother Ruth of 7 Green Lane, Handworth, Staffordshire, he was posted to the 29th battalion Canadian Infantry.

He embarked for England on 20th May 1915, embarking for France on 28th September 1915, He was killed in action on 28th September 1915, he is buried at Wulverghem-Lindenhoek Road, Military Cemetery, Belguim.
