Frederick Arthur Carter was born on 22nd September 1897 at Ruddington, he was the son of Herbert a hosiery hand and Martha Carter née Parker of 47, Norwich St., Guelph .

His father Herbert was born in 1874 at Ruddington, his mother Martha Parker was born in 1875 at Ruddi gton, they were married on 25th December 1898 at Ruddington, they went on to have 5 children. Frederick born 1897 Ruddington, Eliza b1898 Ruddington George born 1900 Ruddington Samuel bornn 1903 Ontario, and Ethel born 1904 Wellington.

In the 1901 census the family are living at Church Street, Ruddington Herbert 27 yrs is a hosiery hand living with his wife Martha 26 yrs and their 3 children Frederick 5 yrs, Eliza 3 yrs and George 10 months.

It would appear the family emigrated to Canada at the turn of the century arriving in Canada in 1901,

They appear on the 1911 census living in Wellington, Ontario.

Frederick Arthur was the husband of Bertha Elizabeth Carter, of 77, Strange St., Guelph, Ontario they were married on 4th December 1915 at Wellington, Ontario.

Military history

Private Frederick Arthur Carter enlisted at Toronto Canada, he served with 'D' Company 15th battalian, Canadian Infantry, he was killed in action on 8th November 1917, he is buried at Divisional Collecting Post Cemetery, Ypres.

'Carter. Killed in action November 8th, Sergt F A Carter Canadians, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H Carter Canada late of Ruddington. - Duty nobly done.'
