Family history

William Goldie Gall was born in 1873 at Stratford, London, he was the son of James a bank mangerand Margaret Goldie Gall

His father James was born in 1844 at Moray, Scotland, he died in 1916 in Surrey, he was aged 72 yrs, his mother Margaret Goldie was born in 1843 at Elgin, Scotland, she died in 1881 in Nottingham she was 38 yrs of age, they were married in 1871 their marriage was recorded in the Grantham, Lincolnshire registration district, they went on to have 7 children.

In he 1891 census the family are living at Codnor, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, James Gall 47 yrs is a bank manager he is living with his children, William G 17 yrs an assistant hosiery hand, Margret 16 yrs scholar, Charles 14 yrs an assistant in an iron works, Hannah 11 yrs a scholar, Annie Charlotte 5 yrs , Ernest 3 yrs and Gordon 10 yrs a scholar.

William Goldie Gall emigrated to Australia prior to the Great War.

Military history

Private William Goldie Gall enlisted on 12th September 1916,at Hughenden, Queensland, Australia, he was a station hand, he was single and was aged 43 yrs, his next of kin was his sister Margaret Goldie Gall of 163 Finborough Road, Earls Court, London. he served with the 31st Infantry battalion, Age at embarkation 43- he embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on 7 February 1917. He died of wounds on 16th August 1918, he is buried at Daours Communal Cemetery, Extension, Daours, France.
