Family history

George Auguste Collier was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of Adolphe Auguste Collier a lace commision agent and Emily Collier née Wolley of 138 Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham.

His father Adolphe Auguste Collier was born in 1864 at Notingham, his mother Emily Wolley was born in 1865 at Nottingham, they were married in 1887 at Nottingham, they had 3 children.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 15 Epperstone Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, Adolophe Auguste 47 yrs is a lace commision agent, he is living with his wife Emily 46 yrs and their children, Blanche Rose 23 yrs a shorthand clerk, Francis Ethel 21 yrs no occupation and George Auguste 16 yrs a lace designer.

Military history

Private George Auguste Collier enlisted at Nottingham, whilst residing at West Bridgford, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He went to France on 28th June 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 21, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
