Robert Walker Coulthard was born in 1890 at Norwell, he was baptised on 23rd Februar 1890 at St Laurence Church, Norwell, he was the son of John William a traction engine driver and Christmas Sarah Coulthard née Williamson of Pockleton, Hinckley.
His father John William was born in 1858 at Quarrington, Durham, his mother Christmas Sarah Williamson was born in 1863 at Norwell, they were married on 9th February 1885 at St Laurance Church, Norwell, they went on to have 5 children.
In the 1911 census his parents are living at The Common, Pockleton, Hinckley, John 52 yrs is a traction engine driver he is living with his wife Christman 47 yrs and their daughter Ethel Mary 14 yrs of age.
At some point Robert Walker emigrated to Audtralia where he resided at Mullewa Western Australian.
Sergeant Robert Walker Coulthard enlisted at Blackboy Camp, Mullewa, Western Australia, on 28th September 1914, giving his age as 24 yrs and 9 months he was an engine cleaner.his next of kin was his father John of Pockleton, Hinckley, England. He served with the 4th Company the Australian Machine Gun Corps, he embarked from Melbourne on 22nd Decemer 1914 on board H.M.A.T Ceramic,he served in Gallipoli from 12th April 1915, , he was transferred to the British Expeditionary Force, disembarking at Marseilles France on 9th June 1916 he was promoted to Corporal on 5th November 1916 and to Sergeant on 29th December 1916. died on 12th April 1917,at No 3 Australia Casualty clearing station from wounds received whilst in action, he is buried at Bapaume Australian Cemetery, France
