Hubert Allison Shaw was born in 1895 at Lenton, Nottingham, he was the son Charles a licnsed victualler and Alice Shaw and the brother of Clara Eveline, Alice Mabel, Edith Elise and Doris Hettie Shaw of 3 Warwick Street, Old Lenton, Nottingham.
His father Charles was born in 1859 at Nottingham, his mother Alice was born in 1860 at Nottingham they were married in 1887 at Nottingham,
In 1901 they lived at the Royal Forester Inn Union Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire where Charles was the licensee.
In 1911 Hubert 16 yrs he is a grocer he is living with his uncle William Bacon 71 yrs a lace warper at 145 Trent Boulevard West Bridgford Nottingham.
Edith Shaw later lived at 5 Captain Albert Ball VC Memorial Homes Church Street Lenton Nottingham.
Sergeant Hubert Allison Shaw enlisted at Nottingham on 2nd August 1914, he was 19 yrs and 281 days old, he was a grocer, he was posted to the 8th battalion eicestershire Regiment. He landed in France on 29th July 1915, he was promoted to Corporal on 17th January 1917 and to Sergeant on 14th April 1917, He was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial Bay 5
