Family history

Ronald Brown was born in 1885 at Stapleford, he was the son of Frederick a bricklayer and Rachel Jane Brown née Wainwright of 56 Derby Road, Stapleford, Nottingham.

His father Frederick was born in 1859 at Ware, Herefordshire, his mother Rachel Jane Wainwright was born in 1860 at Stanton, Derbyshire they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district, they went on to have 6 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 56 Derby Road, Stapleford, Frederick is 52 yrs and is a bricklayer, he is living withhis wife Rachel Jane 57 yrs and their children, Lilian Winifred Mary 20 yrs no occupation listed, Prudence Victoria May 19 yrs no occupation shown, also living with the family is Jane Brown 79 yrs a widow a pensioner and Fredericks mother in law.

Military history

Private Ronald Brown enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalionGrenadier Guards, he was with his battalion on the 1911 census in Wellington barracks Westminster he was 21 yrs of age. He was killed in action on 12th November 1914 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium
