William Bennett Sissins was born on 29th March 1885 at Willoughby on the Wolds, he was the son of David Sissins a fireman engine driver and Ellen Watkin,
His father David was born in 1850 at Saxilby, Lincolnshire, his mother Ellen Watkin was born in 1859 at Willoughby on the Wolds, she died in 1900 she was 41 yrs old, they were married on 18th May 1877 at the Loughborough registry office.they went on to have 13 children.
Following his mothers death his father went on to marry Emma Flether Bryan born 1853 at Wiilloughby on th Wolds.they were married in1905 at Loughborough.
In the 1911 census his family are living at Wymswold, Loughborough, his father David 62 yr is a fireman engine driver, he is living with his second wife Emma 58 yrs and his mother in law Elizabeth Fletcher 80 yrs a widow and his son Robert Leslie 11 yrs a scholar also living at the address are 3 male boarders.
In the same 1911 census we find tha William Bennett Sissins has left the family home, he is living at 73 Isandula Road, Old Basford, Nottingham, he is 26 yrs of age and is single and is a brewers labourer, he is living with John William Main 36 yrs a brewers labourer and his family.
William Bennett married Eva Oxby (born 8th February 1893) on 30th October 1915 at St Saviours Church, Nottingham, they lived at 90 Blackstone Street, Nottingham.
Commencing 22nd January 1917 his widow was awarded a pnsion of 10 shillings a week.
Lance Corporal William Bennett Sissins enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he died on 4th July 1916 in Mesopotamia, his name is commemorated on the Amra War Cemetery Iraq Grave Reference: XI J 3
