Family history

John Anderson was born in 1894 at Turriff, Aberdeenshire, he was the son of George a herdsman on a farm and his first wife the late Elizabeth Badenoch, of Abolton, Nottingham.

His father George was born in 1857 at Bortie, Aberdeenshire, his mother Elizabeth Badenoch was born in 1863 at Oyne, Aberdeenshire she died in 1897 at Basford, Nottingham,aged 34 yrs, they were married in 1885 and wenton to have 6 children.

George married his second wife Charlotte Walton born 1865 at Syston, Leicestershire, they were married in 1899 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district,

In the 1911 census the family are living at Adbolton, Nottinghamshire, George 54 yrs is a herdsman on afarm, heis living with his secornd wfie Charlotte 56 yrs and his childrn, Ebeneer 22 yrs an assistant herdsman on a farm and John 16 yrs a horseman on a farm

Military history

Private John Anderson enlisted whist residing at Whithorn, Wigtownshire, he served with the 1/5th battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, he landed in the Balkans on 6th June 1915, he was killed in action on 29th November 1917 in Egypt, his name is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel.
