Frederick Neale Reid was born in 1879 at East Leake, he was the son of Isaac a frame work knitter and Emma Reid of East Leake Nottinghamshire.
His father Isaac was born in 1850 at East Leake his mother Emma Neale was born in 1859 atEast Leake, they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Loughborough registration district, they went on to have 13 children sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 72 Great Holmes Street, Leicester Isaac 61 yrs is a frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Emma 51 yrs and their children, Edith Annie 20 yrs a shoe machinist, James 19 yrs s shoe hand, Eva 17 yrs a shoe machinist and Alfred 11 a scholar.
Frederick Neal was the husband of Clara Elizabeth Annie Gullian (born 24th August 1882) of 10 Rolleston Street North Evington Leicester. they were married in 1908 at Leicester, they had 2 children, Elsie born 20th Msy 1909 and Clara born 15th April 1912.
In the 1911 census Frederick and his family are living at 10 Rolleston Street, Leicester, Frederick is 34 yrs and is an enginners driller, he is living with his wife Clara Reid 28 yrs and their daughter Elsie 1 year old.
Commencing 2nd December 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 19 shillings a week.
Lance Sergeant Frederick Neale Reid, had previously served and was discharged on 6th July 1905. He was mobilised on 2nd August 1914 posted to the Portsmouth Battalion at Osend on 26th August 1914, he was at Antwerp on 19th September 1914 until 13th October 1914. He joined the Mediterraenan Expeditionay Force on 28th February 1915, until 21st May 1915, when he died of wounds aboard Hospital Ship & buried at sea. His name is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial
He was awarded the Africa General Service Medal with clasp "Somaliland 1902-04" (HMS "Dryad") issued 7th October 1905.
