Family history

George Henry Cooke was born in 1888 at Metheringham, Licolnshire, he was the son of the late James Cooke a shoe maker and the late Mary Cooke née Kirk, of Metheringham.

His father James was born in 1838 at Meheringham, he died in in 1918 aged 80 yrs, his mother Mary Kirk was born in 1847 at Metherington, she died in 1914 aged 67 yrs, they were married on 19th July 1866 at Linoln Independent Chaple, Newton, Lincolnshire, they went o to have 12 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at Drury Street, Methingham, James 73 yrs a shoe maker, he is living with his wife Mary 64 yrs and their children, Clara Alice 30 yrs mothers help, George H 23 yrs single a shoe maker and Harrriett Louisa 20 yrs a housemaid.

Military history

Private George Henry Cook enlisted at Lincoln whilst residing at Newark he served with the 2/5th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 20th Decemebr 1917, he is buried at Rocquigny-Equancourt Road, British Cemerty, Manancourt, France.
