Family history

Harry Watson was born in 1893 at East Bridgford, he was the son of Eli a coal miner hewer and Mary Jane Watson née Nuthall and the brother of George, Maggie, Jacob Wilson and Alwyn Watson. In 1911 they lived at Pinxton.

Eli Watson was born in 1869 at Pinxton, his mother Mary Jane Nuthall was born in 1870 at Pinxton, they were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they had 7 children, sadly 1 was to die in early childhood or infancy.

In the 1911 census the family are living at Platt Street, Pinxton, Eli 41 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Mary Jane 41 yrs and their children, Harry 18 yrs a plumber and glazier, George 12 yrs a scholar, Magge 10 yrs a schoalr,Jacob Wilson 7 yrs and Alwyn 4 yrs of age.

He was the husband of Florence Elizabeth Holland born 25th July 1895 and the father of Vera Watson born 21st April 1914.they lived at 121 Middle Furlong Road, Nottingham,

Commencing 2nd April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

His widow remarried on 1st April 1918 to John Clarke,

Military history

Private Harry Watson enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Pinxton, he served with the 1st Battalion The Royal Welch Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 5th July 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France (Pier and Panel 4 A).

There are three pension record cards for Wilson, one gives his dependant as his wife Florence Elizabeth Clarke and the other two as his father, Herbert.

There is a family (on ancestry) where (marriage entry ) Herbert Watson 21 yrs a saddler born 1852 at Eaton, Nottinghamshire is married to his first wife Ann Wilson, 21 yrs they were married on 14th August 1873 at East Bridgford, they go on to have 6 children, including George Henry born 1873 at East Bridgford, his mother appears to die in 1901 in Newark aged 51 yrs, his father goes on to re marry to Eliza Dye (born 1867 Dudley) they were married on 12th April 1909 at St Michaels Church, South Normanton, Eliza brings a number of children to the marriage.

In the 1911 census we find the family living at York Terrace at Pinxton, Herbert Wilson 59 yrs a saddler is living with his second wife Eliza 44 yrs and his son Harry Watson 17 yrs a coal miner pony driver, and step children, Thomas Dye 16 yrs a coal miner pony driver, Sarah Ann Dye 14 yrs, Esther Dye 12 yrs, Eliza Dye 11 yrs , George Dye 9 yrs John Dye 8 yrs and daughter Florence Watson 8 months old.
