William Taylor was born in 1888 at Woodsetts, near Worksop, he was the son of George Jenkinson a quarryman and Jane Taylor née Ellis of Woodsetts Worksop Nottinghamshire.
His father George Jenkison Taylor was born in 1848 at Woodsetts, his mother Jane Ellis was born in 1851 at Worksop, they were married on 25th November 1872 at St Georges Church, Woodsetts, they went on to have 10 children.
In the 1911 census his parents were living at Woodsetts near Worksop, George Taylor is 64 yrs and is an unemployed quaryman, he is living with his wife Jane 61 yrs also living with them is Charles Spencer 19 yrs a general labourer he is a boarder.
William married Harriett Spyve (born 16th September 1892) they were married on 1st January 1910 at St George Church, Woodsett, they lived at Woodseett they had the following children, Lizzie born 16th May 1910, Olive born 16th February 1912, William born 7th May 1914, and Lucy born 19th May 1916
In the 1911 census the family are living at Woodsett village, William 23 yrs is a caol miner labourer, he is living with hisw wife Harriett 19 yrs and their daughter Lizzie 10 months old,
Commencing 5th November 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Private William Taylor enlisted at Worksop on 11th December 1915, giving his age as 27 yrs , he was a farm labourer he was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 30th May 1916 now being 28 yrs and 2 days, he was a quarryman, he was posted on 1st June 1916 and served with the 14th service battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, landing in France on 28th September 1916, he was killed in action 0n 9th March 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
