Family history

William Burton Stothard was born on 26th January 1890 at Burton on Trent, he was the son of the late Joseph William Stothard, a publican and farmer and Mary Stothard née Burton of Somersby near Grantham.

His father Joseph William was born in 1855 at Owego, New York, USA, he died in 1916 at the Fox and Hound Hotel, Somersby near Grantham he was 61 yrs of age, his mother Mary Burton was born in 1856 at Dunham on Trent, she died in 1914 at Old Somersby she was also 61 yrs old, they were married in 1879 at Timberland, Lincoln , they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at Fox and Hounds Inn, Old Somersby, Grantha.m, Joseph W Stothard 56 yrs is a publican and farmer, he is living with his wife Mary 56 yrs and their children, Jessie 25 yrs a farmers dauughter, William B 21 yrs working on the farm, Harodl E 18 yrs working on the farm and Mable 14 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private William Burton Stothard enlisted at Grantham whilst residing at Newark, he served with the 8th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 26th September 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
