Henry Stevens was born in 1885 he was baptised on 17th June 1885 at All Saints Church, Ripley he was the son of the late William a dairy farmer and the late Mary Ann Stevens née Marriott of Marehay Derby.
His father William was bornb in 1854 at Somercoates, he died in 1909 at Somercoates aged 54 yrs, his mother Mary Ann Marriott was born in 1858 at Somercoates, she died in 1916 at Pinxton she was 58 yrs of age they were married on 22nd May 1876 at Alfreton they had 4 children.
In the 1911 census Henry and his siblings are living at Cater Lane House, South Normanton, thet are living with their in laws, John Shaw Daykin 23 yrs a dairy farmer and his wife Annie Daykin (nee Stevens) Mary Ann Stevens 54 yrs is a widow, Henry Stevens 25 is a milk seller and William Stevens 12 yrs of age a scholar.
Private Henry Stevens enlisted at Alfreton, Derbyshire whilst residing at Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 2nd September 1917, he is buried in Templeux-Le-Guerad British Cemetery, France.
