Arthur Short was born in 1898 at Roughton, Lincolnshire, he was the son of the late Walter Ronald Short a stud groom and the late Charlotte Short née Boucher.
His father Walter Ronald was born in 1872 at Roughton, he died in 1903 aged 31 yrs, his mother Charlotte Boucher was born in 1872 at Minting, Lincolnshire, she died in 1913 aged 41 yrs, they were married on 8th December 1895 at Horncastle, Lincolnshire, they went on to have 5 children.
Following the death of his father his mother Charlotte remarried in 1908 at Horncastle to William Mann born 1879 Littleport, Cambridgeshire.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 35 Mareham Road, Horncastle, William Mann 32 yrs is a butchers assistant, he is living with his wife Charlotte Mann 39 yrs and her children, Arthr Short 13 yrs a scholar, Elizabeth Short 12 yrs a scholar, William Short 10 yrs a scholar and Rose Short 8 yrs a scholar.
Private Arthur Short enlisted at Lincoln whilst residing at Edwinstow, he served with the 6th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 7th June 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin gate memorial, Belgium
