Frank Rudd was born in 1878 at Sheffield he was the son of Charles Edward a scissor smith and Mary Elizabeth Rudd née Hickson of Sheffield.
His father Charles Edward was born in 1854 at Sheffiled, his mother Mary Elizabeth Hickson was born in 1854 at Sheffield, they were married on 3rd November 1874 at Yorks, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at 166 Broomspring Lane, Sheffield, Charles Edward 57 yrs is a scissor smith, he is living with his wife Mary e 57 yrs and their children, Arnold 23 yrs a police constable, William 20 yrs a scissor smith, Emily 18 yrs working at home and George 12 yrs a scholar.
Frank was the husband of Gertrude Richardson (born 8th January 1878 at Steetley, ) they were married on 13th October 1904 at Whitwell, Derbyshire, they had a daighter Barbara born 20th August 1911 they lived at Markham Moor, Tuxford, Notts.
In the 1911 census Frank 33 yrs is a postman he is living with his wife Gertrude 33 yrs they are living at 21 Pendeen Road, Nethergreen, Sheffield.
Commencing 6th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 27 shillings and 9 pence a week, at this date his widow was living at 23 Hounsfield Road, Sheffield.
Sapper Frank Rudd initially enlisted on 12th February 1901 at Pontefract, giving his age as 23 yrs and 8 months he was a postman, he served until his discharge on 26th June 1902.He was mobilsed for war and enlisted at London, he served with the Postal Section, Royal Engineers, he died on 28th January 1918 of mental sickness at No 42 Stationary Hospital, France he is buried at Saint Pierre Cemetery, Amiens, France.
