Family history

George Henry Morley was born in 1895 at Tuxford, he was the son of George a farm foreman and Elizabeth Morley née Mellors of 47 Ollerton Road Tuxford.

His father George was born in 1856 at Tuxford, his mother Elizabeth Mellors was born in 1866 at Elkesley, they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the East Retford registration district, they went on to have 6 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or ealy childhood.

In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at 47 Ollerton Road, Tuxford, George 53 ys is a farm foreman, he is living with his daughters Elizabeth 24 yrs a cook, Mary Jane 20 yrs a general domestic servant, Elizabeth 13 yrs, Hilda May 9 yrs, alos living with them is their grandson John William 3 yrs.

In the same 1911 census George Henry has left the family home and is living at The Robin Hood Inn, Edwinstowe, he is 17 yrs of age and is a servant, he is living with John George Sampson 46 yrs a farmer and inn keeper and his family.

Military history

Private George Morley enlisted at Retford, whilst residing at Newark, he served with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he transferred to (6/13924) 14th Bn Training Reserve and died of pneumonia on 17th February 1917 at Brockton Training Camp, Stafford, he was buried at St Nicholas Church, Tuxford, Nottinghamshire.
