Robert William Mitchell was born in 1894 at St Marylebone, Middlesex, he was the son of William a plumber and the late Emma Mitchell née Jukes of Sumatra Road, Hampstead.

His father William was born in 1852 at Marylebone, his mother Emma Jukes was born in 1851 at Hampstead, she died in 1890 at Hampstead she was 39 yrs old. they were married in 1877 at Marylebone, they had 7 children.

In the 1901 his family are livng at 80 Sumatra Road, West Hampstead, William 46 yrs is a plumber, he is living his second wife Mary 33 yrs and his 8 children,

In the 1911 census Robert William 18 yrs is a plumbers labourer, he is living at 80 Sumatra Road, West Hampstead, he is living with his siblings, Arthur David 25 yrs single and a plumber, Emma Elizabeth 24 yrs single a florist, and Henry Albert 16 yrs an office boy.

He was the husband of Margery Mitchell (born 18th December 1896,) of The White Hart Inn Ollerton Nottinghamshire they had a daughter Dorothy Elizabeth born 21st July 1918.

Commencing 24th March 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Private Robert William Mitchell enlisted at Westminster, he served with the 11th battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, he landed in France on 5th July 1915, he was taken a prisoner of war and died on 29th July 1918, he is buried at Niederzwehren Cemetery, Kassal, Germany.
