Frank Massey was born in 1893 at Twigmore, Lincolnshire, he was the son of Petera butcher and dealer and Emily Ann Massey, née Wood of 43, Raglan Rd., Retford, Notts.

His father Peter was born in 1870 at Twigmore, his mother Emily Ann Wood was born in 1865 at Auldanby, Yorkshire, they were married in 1891 at Glanford Brigg, Lincolnshire, they went on to have 6 children Frank born 1893 at Twigmore,

In the 1911 census the family are living at High Street, Messingham, Peter 41 yrs is a butcher and dealer, he is living with hs wife Emily Ann 46 yrs and their children, Eva 15 yrs a sholar, Eva 15 yrs a scholar, Vinnie 13nyrs a scholar, Beryl 12yrs a sholar and Cyril 3 yrs of age.

In the same 1911 census Frank is 18 yrs of age an apprentice grocer and draper, he has left the family home, he is living at Messingham with John Henry Ross 32 yrs manager of a grocers and drapers, and his family

Military history

Corporal Frank Massey enlisted at Oakham, Rutland he served with te 1/5th battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he was killed in action on 13th October 1915, he is buried at Quarry Cemetery, Vermelles
