Fred Lambert was born in 1875 at Holbrook, Derbyshire, he was the son of the late John a coal miner and Alice Lambert, née Taylor of Horsley Woodhouse, Derby;
His father John Lambert was born in 1847 at Spondon Derbyshire, he died in 1914 he was 67 yrs of age, his mother Alice Taylor was born in 1847 at Holbrook, she died in 1912 aged 65 yrs, they were marrried on 19th February 1872 in Derbyshire, they went on to have 7 children sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at Horsley Woodhouse, near Derby, John Lambert 65 yrs is a coal miner, he is living with his wife Alice 65yrs and their children, Herbert 22 yrs a coal miner loader and Amy Lambert 17 yrs a house worker.
Fred was the husband of Mary Ann Morley (born 16th August 1871,) they were married in 1912 their marriage was recorded in the Belper Registration district Mary brought a child to the marriage Elsie Morley born 4th September 1903, they lived at White Hart Yard, Kilburn. Derby
Commencing 7th August 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 17 shillings and 6 pence a week.
Private Fred Lambert enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Tollerton, he served with the 2nd battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he landed in France on 13th October 1915, he was killed in Mesopotamia on 7th January 1916, his name is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq,
