Thomas Ackroyd Hut was born in 1890 at Smeeton Westerby, Leicestershire, he was the son of John Thomas Hunt a butcher and Ruth Hunt née Sharpe

His john Thomas was born in 1861 at Shearsby, Leicestershire, his mother Ruth Sharpe was born in in 1867 Borden, Kent they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Market Harborough registration district, they went on to have 6 children.

Thomas Ackroyd Hunt married Lucy Burton (born 23rd February 1888 at Worksop.) on 2nd November 1910 at Worksop Registry office, they lived at 9 Beresford Road, Maltby, Rotherham.

In the 1911 cenus he is living at South Carlton, Worksop, he is shown as Thomas Ackroyd Hunt 21 yrs a cowman on a farm, he is living with his wife Lucy 23 yrs.

His widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week, commencing 17th April 1916.

Military history

Private Thomas Ackroyd Hunt enlisted on 31st August 1914 at Rotherham, he was 25 yrs old, he joined at Frensham Camp on 23rd September 1914, he was posted to the York and Lancahsire Regiment, he embarked from Folkstone on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action on 28th September 1915 he is buried at X Farm Cemetery, La Chapelle-D'Armentieres, France.
