John Hall Gregory was born in 1885 at Cromford, he was the son of John a warehouse man and Millicent Gregory née Hall of Matlock Bath Derbyshire.

His father John was born in 1859 at Matlock his mother Millicent Hall was born in 1859 at Matlock they were married on 22nd October 1881 at St Mary's Church, Cromford, they had 2 further children, Mary brn 1889 Cromford and Phoebe born 1891 Cromford.

In the 1901 census the family are living at Barnell Lane, Cromford, John Hall is 16 yrs he is a machine minder.

In the 1911 census John Hall Gregory is living at 89 Cromford Hill, Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, he is shown as being 26 yrs of age he is working at a cotton doubling mill he is living with his uncle and aunt Edwin Gregory 49 yrs a hosiery examiner, and Elizabeth 42 yrs,

Military history

Private John Hall Gregory enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Retford, he served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 18th August 1918 he is buried at Mount Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France.
