
Wilfred Gant
Worked for his father on land occupied by him at Tetford and Somersby, when his father gave up farming, went to Yorkshire as a railway porter, but seeing Policemen were being advertised for, applied for and was appointed a member of the Lincolnshire Police Force.

Wilfred Gant was born in 1895 at Tetford he was the youngest son of the late William a cottager and farmer and the late Biddie (Bridget) Gant née Parker of Tetford.
His father William was born in 1852 at Harrington he died in 1918 aged 66 yrs, his mother Bridget (Biddie) Parker was born in 1851 at Sausthorpe, Lincoln, she died in 1918 aged 67 yrs, they were married in 1875 at Lincoln, they went o to have 13 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at Horncastle, William Gant 59 yrs is a cottager, he is living with his wife Biddie 60 yrs and their son Wilfred Gant 18 yrs a farm labourer.
Private Wilfred Gant enlisted at Horncastle whilst residing at Collingham, on 30th September 1914 he served with the 7th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. He was wounded by a shell September 4th while helping to remove a wounded comrade, died the following day, 5th September 1915. He is buried at Lijssenthoek Militiary Cemetery,
