Ernest John Ford was born in 1889 at Robertsbridge, Sussex he was the son of the late John a foreman platelayer and Louise Ford née Jarrett, of Ewhurst, nr. Hawkhurst, Kent,
His father John was born in 1858 at Watlington, Sussex he died on 1st June 1906 at Battle he was 48 yrs old, his mother Louisa Jarrett was born in 1859 at Ticehurst, Sussex, they were married on 21st July 1883 at Salehurst, Sussex, they went on to have 6 children.
He was the husband of Ethel Jane Hubbard (born 13th April 1891) they were married on 28th October 1911 at St James Church, Ewhurst, Sussex, they had 2 children, George Ernest born 15th July 1914 at Ewhurst and Molly Ernestine born 23rd November 1917 Ewhurst., of Milton Cottages, Chartham, nr. Canterbury.
In the 1911 census the family were living at Dogg Lane, Ewhurst his widowed mother Louisa 52 yrs is living with two of her children, Ernest John 21 yrs single and a farm labourer and Alice Edith 12 yrs of age.
Rifleman Ernest John Ford enlisted at Hastings, he served with the 2/10th Battalion Rifle Brigade, London Regiment. he initialled served wit the service number S2/04524 in the Army Service Corps he was killed in action on 22nd September 1917, he is buried at Brandoek new military cemetery No 3
