Family history

Arthur Fisher was born on 22nd June 1892 atNorth Anston, Yorkshire, he was the son of Thomas acolliery engine driver shunter and Elizabeth Mary Fisher née Smith and the brother of William, Annie, Harriet, Florence, Esther and George Fisher.

His father Thomas was born in 1859 at North Anston, his mother Elizabeth Mary Smith was born in 1866 also at North Anston, they were married on 25th December 1899at St James Church, North Anston, they went on to have 9 chidren.

In the 1911 census the family lived at North Anston near Worksop, Thomas 51 yrs is an engine driver colliery shunter, he is living with hois wife Elizabeth 44 yrs and their children, Arthur 18 yrs a colliery pony driver, William 17 yrs a colliery pony driver, Annie 15 yrs a home house maid, Harriett 13 yrs a scholar, Florence 10 yrs a scholar and George 1 year old.

Military history

Private Arthur Fisher enlisted at Rotherham whilst residing at Worksop, he served with the 9th battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, he landed in France on 27th August 1915, he was killed on 1st July 1916, the first day of the battale of the Somme, he isburied at Blighty Valley Cemetery, Authuille Wood Cemetery, France
