William Crooks was born in 1889 at Norwich
He was the husband of Ethel May Rudd born 1st September 1891, they were married in 1910 at Norwich,
In the 1911 census they lived at 3 Elgin Place Newark, William Crooks 22 yrs is a general labourer, he is living with his wife Ethel May 21 yrs.
Commencing 27th October 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week which was increased to 13 shillings and 9 pence a week on 4th April 1917.
His widow re married on1st December 1917 to Michael Kelly.
Private William Crooks enlisted at Grantham, he served with the 1st battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 16th June 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium
