Family history

Samuel Cooper was born in 1898 at Farnsfield, he was the son of Frank a general labourer and Eliza Cooper née Kirk of Farnsfield Nottinghamshire.

His father Frank was born in 1865 at Thorpe, Newark his mother Eliza Kirk was born in 1872 at Farnsfield, they were married in 1896 at Southwell, they went on to have 6 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Goodlakr Street, Brightside Lane, Sheffield, Frank 46 yrs a labourer, he is living with his wife Eliza 39 yrs and their children, Samuel 13 yrs a telegraph messenger, James 9 yrs, Edith 8 yrs and Ethel 5 yrs of age.

Military history

Sapper Samuel Cooper enlisted and served with the 6th Division Signals, Royal Engineers he was killed in action on 30th April 1918, he is buried at Brandhoek New Military Cemetery No 3
