Robert Dalgarno Chrystal was born on 25th December 1887 at Cruden,Aberdeenshire, he was the son Charles Chrystal a cattleman on afarm and Helen Chrystal née Dalgarno of Fettercairn Kincardineshire.

His father Charles was born in 1866 at Foveran, Aberdeenshire, his mother Helen Dalgarno was born in 1866 at Old Deer, Aberdeenshire, they were married in 1887 at Crude, Aberdeeenshire, they had a further son Charles Chrystal born 1900.

In the 1911 census Robet has left the family home, he is living at Pilsley near Bakewell Derbyshire, he is shown as bring 22 yrs single and an assistannt foresters, he is ligin with 3 other assistant foresters in Pilsley.

He was the husband of Ellen Elizabeth Joynes whom he married in 1916 at East Retford, Nottinghamshire, he was the father of Elsie Chrystal of 23 Richard Street Retford Nottinghamshire.

Military history

Sergeant Robert Dalgarno Chrystal enlisted at Bakewell Derbyshire, he served with the 1st Squadron Northumberland Hussars he died on 8th November 1918 in a railway accident in France. he is buried at Fillievres British Cemetery
