Christopher Charles Chalk was born in 1886 atTottenham, London, he was the son of Charles a painter and decorator and Amy Chalk née Harrison and the brother of Frank Herbert Chalk born 1890 and Hester Mary born 1896 Long Bennington,
In the 1911 census the family lived at Church Street Long Bennington Newark Charles 51 yrs is a painter and decorator, he is living with his wife Amy 50 yrs and their childre, Frank Herbert 21 yrs a painter and Christopher Charles 24 yrs a joiner
He was the husband of Edith Alice Vincent (born 20th January 1888 ) they were married on 18th July 1911 at Long Bennington, they lived at Church Street, Long Bennington and went on to have two children, Sybil born 26th July 1913 and Ronald Christopher Chalk born 7th March 1916.
Commencing 26th June 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a week. .
Company Sergeant Major Christopher Charles Chalk enlisted on 7th September 1914 at Lincoln, giving his age as 28yrs and 72 days, he was a joiner, he was posted to the Lincolnshire Regiment, he had previously served with the Lincolnshire Yeomanry. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 10th September 1914 and to Corporal on 7th October 1914. Promoted to Company Sergeant Major on 15th March 1915. He embarked from Folkstone on 10th September 1915 and was killed in action on 26th September 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Belgium
