Family history

Harry Brown was born in 1882 at Stockton on Tees he was the son of Edley a drapers vanman and Angelina Brown née Hill of Darlington.

His father Edley was born in 1853 at Hogsthorpe, Lincolnshire, his mother Angelia Hill was born in 1853 at Blyton, Lincolnshire, they were married on 5th October 1874 at Bilsby, Lincolnshire, they went on to have 7 children.

In the 1911 census his parents are living at 8 Wooler Street, Darlington, Edley 58 yrs is a drapers vanman, he is living with his wife Angelina 58 yrs, and their daughter Eva Brown 17 yrs a home help.

In the same 1911 census we find that Harry has left the family home, he is baording at 6 Coychurch Road, Bridgend, he is shown asbeing 29 yrs single and a haridresser, he is living with William John Middleton 22 yrs single and a quarry clerk.

Military history

Private Harry Brown enlisted at Carmarthen whilst residing at Retford, Nottinghamshire, he served with the 13th battalion Welch Regiment, he was killed in action on 22nd November 1916, he is buried at Essex Farm Cemetery, Belgium.
