Harry Booth was born on 22nd March 1876 at Coddington, he was the son of William a farmer and Anne Rebecca Booth néé Taylor.

His father William was born in 1845 at Coddington, he died in 1918 at Coddington, he was aged 73 yrs, his mother Anne Rebecca Taylor was born in 1853 at Barnby, Nottinghamshire, they were married on 27th May 1875 at Newark, they went on to have 7 children.

In the 1911 census his parents and siblings were living at Coddington village, William 66 yrs is a farmenr, he is living with his wife Annie 58 yrs and their children, Ernest 26 yrs a farmers son working on his fathers farm, Alice Ann 21 yrs a farmers daughter working in the diary farm, also residing with them is a 14 yrs old male servant, who is working on the farm.

Harry was the husband of Sarah Ann Hempsall they were married on 21st June 1904 at Muskham Parish church, they had 2 children, Alice born 1st September 1905 and William Henry born 18th February 1910 they lived at Spring House Hotel, Newark,

His probate proven on 15th February 1919 at London, shows him as Harry Booth of Spring House, Newark on Trent, died 14th November 1918 at the military hospital, Fulham, his effects of £3226 4 shillings and 8 pence were left to his widow Sarah Ann Booth.

Military history

Driver Haary Booth enlisted at Nottingham on 26th August 1918, whilst residing at Newark, he was living at Spring House Hotel, Newark, he was 44 yrs amd 5 months, He served with 666th Horse Transport Company Army Service Corps, he died from influenza on 24th November 1918 at Fulham Hospital and is buried in Coddington churchyard.

The Newark Advertiser reported:
“Much sympathy will be extended to Mrs.Booth and family, of the “Spring House”, Newark, in the death of her husband Private Harry Booth, of the A.S.C. He was the eldest
son of Mr and Mrs W. Booth of Coddington and came to Newark five years ago when he
took over the Spring House, and also carried on an extensive business as carting contractor. He was called up on August 25 and stationed at Park Royal. On Tuesday Mrs Booth had a letter from her husband, stating he was suffering from influenza, but not seriously; on Thursday, however, a telegram arrived at one o’clock, stating that he was seriously ill at Fulham Hospital. Mrs Booth was preparing to travel to London when a further telegram arrived at ten to five, informing her of her husband’s death at two o’clock.”

Military Service record: He enlisted in 1918 aged 42 & 5 months, Regt No T/438905, occupation Contractor. He had previously served for 1 yr 225 days in South Africa in the SRY. Medals: British, Victory.

Two of his brothers also served, George in the Army Service Corps and Frank in the Royal Navy.
