Family history

John William Bell was born in 1896 at Leeds he was the son of Thomas Bell a dyer and Charlotte Read Bell née Lane of Whatton Nottinghamshire.

His father Thomas was born in 1872 at Fulford, York, his mother Charlotte Read Lane was born in 1866 at Aslockton near Bingham Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district, they had a further child Ida Bell born 1894 at Leeds.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Henshaw Lane, Yeadon, Yorkshire, Thomas Bell 39 yrs is a dyers labourer he is living with his wife Charlotte Bell 43 yrs and their children, Ida Bell 17 yrs working in a printing department and John William Bell 14 yrs working in a dyers finishing department.

Military history

Private John William Bell enlisted at Guiseley, Yorkshire whilst residing at Yeadon, he served with the 2/6th battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) he was killed in action on 27th November 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval.
