John Barker (junior) was born in 1876 at Bleasby, Nottinghamshire, he was baptised on 16th April 1876 at St Marys Church, Bleasby he was the son of the late John Barker (senior) a farmer and the late Louisa Barker née Plowman of Southwell Nottinghamshire.
His father John was born in 1838 at Southwell, he died in 1883 at Southwell he was 45 yrs of age, his mother Louisa Plowman was born in 1843 at Thurgarton, she died in 1888 aged 45 yrs, they were married on 11th July 1861 at St Mary's Minster church Southwell, they had 2 further children, Annie born 1862 and Louisa Ann born 1872 both were born in Southwell.
John Barker (junior) was the husband of Mabel Lamb (born 4th July 1880) they were married in 1904 at Southwell, in 1911 they lived at Halam near Southwell, John 35 yrs is a grocers porter, he is living with his wife Mabel 30 yrs.
They went on to adopt a child, Ruby Moody born 27th February 1913.
Commencing 7th October 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.
Private John Barker enlisted at Southwell, he initially served with the service number 30551 17th battalion York and Lancaster Regiment later transferring to (18009) 30th Coy Labour Corps
He was killed on 10 March 1918 and is buried in Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension, France (grave ref. II.E.21).
CWGC - Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension (extract): 'The extension was begun by French troops in October 1914 and when they moved south in March 1916 to be replaced by Commonwealth forces, it was used for burials by the 6th Casualty Clearing Station. In November 1917, Barlin began to be shelled and the hospital was moved back to Ruitz, but the extension was used again in March and April 1918 during the German advance on this front.' 1095 burials.
