Joseph Linton Edward Arnold was born in 1890 at Ruskington he was the son of Henry and Mary Marriott née Arnold of 92 Beacon Hill Newark.

His mother Mary Ann Arnold was born in 1873 at Sleaford, she had Joseph Linton Edward Arnold a son in 1890 prior to her marriage to Henry Marriott born 1873 at Cranwell, Lincolnshire they were married in 1894 at Sleaford, they went on to have 11 children sadly 1 was to die in infancy or earley childhood.

In the 1911 census his family are living at 6 Reform Place, Sleaford, Henry Marriott 42 yrs is a maltster he is living with his wife Mary Ann 40 yrs and 8 of their children.

In the same 1911 census Joseph Linton Edward Arnold has left the family home and has joined the Army , he is shown as being 21 yrs a soldier in the Royal Field Artillery born at Ruskington, he is with his Brigade in barracks at Orange Free State, South Afica.

Military history

Corporal Joseph Linton Edward Arnold enlisted at Sleaford, he served with the 132nd Bty 1st Bde, Royal Field Artillery, he was killed in action on 10th May 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
