Family history

Herbert Andrews was born in 1893 at Yarwell, Northamptonshire, he was the son of Emmanuel Andrews a shepherd and Rose Anne Andrews née Faulkner of Market Deeping.

His father Emmanuel was born in 1870 at Yarwell, Northamptonshire, his mother Rose Ann Faulkner was born in 1874 at Great Gidding, Huntingdonshire, they were married in 1890 at Oundle, Northampton, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at Lolham Cottages, Market Deeping, Emmanuel 43 yrs is a farm shepherd he is living with his wife Rose Annie 40 yrs and their 6 children.

In the same 1911 census, we find that Ernest has left the family home, he is living at Glebe Farm, Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire. he is shown as being 17 yrs and is a farm servant, he is living with Frank Harold Smith 24 yrs afarmer.

Military history

Lance Corporal Herbert Andrews enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action, 4th July 1916, in the attack on the German positions near Fricourt, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
