Claude Victor Mills was born on 25th April 1880 at Nottingham, he was the son of Matthew Mills a railway signal man and Emma Jane Mills née Burton of 33 Coalville Street, Nottingham
His father Matthew was born in 1852 at Aston, Gloucestershire, his mother Emma Jane Burton was born in 1857 at Edwalton, Nottingham, they were married in 1879 at Nottingham, they had 4 children.
In the 1911 census his parents are living at 3 Albert Road, Lenton, Matthew 58 yrs is a railway signalman, he is living with his wife Emma Jane 54 yrs and their children, Garnet 29 yrs a clerk, Olive 23 yrs and Marione 15 yrs.
Claude Victor Mills was the husband of Mabel Abbott (born 25th November 1886) they were mnarried on 16th December 1906 at Holy Trinity Church, Nottingham they had 3 children, Phyllis Mary born 3rd July 1907, Cecil Harold born 2nd April 1910 and Frederick Charles born 9th July 1912,
In 1911 they lived at 5 Sycamore Road St Ann's Nottingham, Claude Victor 31 yrs is a postman, he is living with his wife Mabel 26 yrs and their children Phyllis Mary 3 yrs and Cecil Harold 1 year of age.
They later moved to 48 Radnor Street, Nottingham. (Evening Post April 5, 1917)
Commencing 15th October 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 27 shillings and 6 pence a week.
Corporal Claude Victor Mills enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Forester Regiment. He went to France 25th February 1915 and was killed in action, 13th March 1917, during the follow-up attack during the German retreat at Gommecourt, France.
