George Walker was born in Annesley, he was baptised on 7th July 1901 at All Saints Church, Annesley he was the son of Edward a coal miner contractor and Florence Walker née Coleman of 74 New Annesley Row, Annesley.
His father Edward was born in 1869 at Swannington, Leicestershire, his mother Florence Coleman was born in 1873 at Nottingham, they were married on 5th November 1892 at St Wilfrids Church, Wilford, Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family were living at 74 Annesley Row, Annesley, Edward 42 yrs is a coal miner contractor, he is living with his wife Florence 38 yrs and their children, Beatrice Sarah 19 yrs a laundry ironer, George 13 yrs a golf caddy, Arthur 7 yrs, John 4 yrs and Florence 1 year old.
Private George Walker was called up for service on 19th October 1916 at Derby, he was living at 74 New Annesley, Notingham, he was 18 years and 9 months and was a gardener. He embarked from Folkstone on 2nd June 1917 arriving the same day at Boulogne, he was posted to the Royal Scots on 16th June 1917. He was killed in action on 26th September 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
