Samson Lines was born on 29th January 1897 at Annesley, he was the son of John a coal miner contractor and the late Ellen Lines née Green of 55 New Annesley.
His father John Lines was born in 1858 at Kirkby Muxloe, his mother Ellen Green was born in 1861 at Calver, she died in 1897 aged 36 yrs, they were married on 1st March 1880 at All Saints Church, Annesley, they had 5 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 55 New Annesley, Nottinghamshire, John 53 yrs is a widow he is a coal miner contractor, he is living with his children, William 21 yrs a coal miner loader, Samson 14 yrs a coal miner pony driver also living at the address is Lois Newton 53 yrs a house keeper.
Private Samuel Lines enlisted at Newark on 17th October 1914, giving his age as 17 yrs and 9 months, he was a coal miner, he was posted to the 1/8 battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 30th July 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium
