John Henry Burton was born in 1897 at Radford, Nottingham, he was the son of the late Charles John a twisthand lacemaker and Susan Burton née Lancaster 28 Park Street, Lenton, Nottingham and the brother of Eliza (later Lightfoot) and Albert Burton.
is father Charles John was born in 1864 at Radford he died in 1917 at Nottingham he was 53 yrs old, his mother Susan Lancaster was born in 1865 at Bradford, they were married on 13rd April 1893 at St Peters Church, Radford, Nottingham they had 4 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census his father Charles John a twisthand lace maker is living with his two sons john 13 yrs and Albert 11 yrs of age, they are living at 79 Park Street, New Lenton, they are boarding with Agnes Lockhart 47 yrs a widow and lacehand and her family.
Private John Henry Burton enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He went to France on 25th May 1915 and was killed in action, 13th October 1915, age 18, in the attack on the Hohenzollern Redoubt, France. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
