Fred Bonnett was born on 23rd May 1893 at Nottingham, he was the son of William a hardware traveller and the late Phebe Elanor (Ellen) Bonnett née Wilkinson, and the brother of William, May and Bertha Bonnett.
His father William was born in 1864 at Boston, Lincolnshire, his mother Phebe Eleanor Wilkinson was born in 1861 at Dudley, Staffordshire, they were married on 4th October 1895 at Nottingham, they had 5 children.
In the 1911 censu the family lived at 19 Midland Avenue Nottingham, William Bonnett 47 yrs a hardware traveller, he is living withhis wife Ellen 50 yrs and their children, William 24 yrs a tailors presser, Fred 17 yrs a telegraph messenger, May 22 yrs a pinafore machinist, and Bertha 19 yrs a pinafore machinist.
Fred was the husband of Nellie Louise Craven (born 29th March 1891) they were married on 5th October 1916 at Lenton Priory Church, they lived at 21 Midland Avenue, Lenton, they had a daughter Winifred Nellie born 25th August 1918.
Commencing 5th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.
Gunner Fred Bonnett enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Lenton, he served with A Battery 2nd Company Royal Garrison Artillery, he died of pneumonia, on 1st November 1918 at Gravesend Militray Hospital, he is buried at Lenton Holy Trinity church Nottingham.
