Francis Dawson Blandy was born on 22nd December 1874 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Henry Blandy a dental worker and Helen Thompson Dawson of 10 Addison Street, Nottingham.
His father Henry Blandy was born in 1844 at Chesterfield, his mother Helen Thompson Dawson was born in 1847 at Nottingham, they were married in 1873 their marriage was recorded in the Newark Registration district, they had two further childen, William Hnery born 1874 and Wilfred Boothby born 1878 both born in Notingham
In the 1911 census Henry Blandy 67 yrs is living as a boarder at 10 Addison Street, Nottingham.
Francis Dawson married Annie Howland in 1901 at Totnes, Devon.
In the 1911 census they are living at 3 Allendale Place, Tynemouth, Francis Dawson 36 yrs a medical practioner is living with his wife Annie 37 yrs and their children, Eric Howland 7 yrs and Geoffrey 5 yrs, also living with them is a female servant.
Lieutenant Colonel Francis Dawson Blandy entered the war in France on 26th June 1915 and served with 24th Field Ambulance RAMC.
He was awarded the Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He worked continuously for thirty-six hours under heavy shell fire and adverse conditions of weather, not only collecting the wounded of his own brigade, but also those of another, who were lying in an advanced position. To do this he collected all the bearer parties that he could find, and personally led them to the spots under heavy shell fire. By his gallant conduct in going forward again and again, regardless of his personal safety, he undoubtedly saved many lives.'
He was killed whilst tending to the wounded under intense shell fire on August 14, 1917.
