Family history

Alfred was born at Daybrook in 1889, the son of William a dyer and Elizabeth Horton née Archer of Barrows Row, Daybrook, being educated at the British School Arnold he had 7 siblings.

His father William was born in 1848 at Daybrook,his mother Elizabeth Archer was in 1850 at Arnold, they were married on 27th July 1868 at St Marys Church, Arnold,

Alfred married Florence Matilda Davis (born 6th October 1886 ) in 1910 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had a daughter Annie born 29th May 1910,

In the 1911 census he is still living with his father at Barrows Row, by this time his father is a widow, he is also shown there with his wife Florie who was 24 years of age and from Cardiff, he is 22 years of age and a cattle dealers labourer they have been married for a year and have a daughter Annie 1 year of age , they had further children, Gladys born 4th August 1913 and May born 17th August 1917 (she later died)

His widow was awarded a pension of 29shillings and 7 pence a week commencing 5th August 1918.

Some time after his death his wife Florence Matilda Horton, remarried to become Florence Matilda Guy and she lived at 17 Draytons Yard, Arnold.

Military history

Having enlisted at Hucknall into the Lincolnshire Regiment, Arthur was posted to their 1st Battalion. He died of wounds on 28th January 1918 and is buried at Tincourt British Cemetery, France
