Albert was born in 1892, at Arnold, the son of the late Charles a labourer and Harriett Guy née Butler, his father Charles was born in 1861 at Arnold, he died in 1893 aged 32 yrs, soon after Alberts birth his mother Harriett Butler was born in in 1868 at Arnold, they were married on 7th May 1887 at Arnold, they had 3 further children, Elizabeth born 1889, Annie born 1890 and George born 1894.
By the 1911 census Harriet had remarried a William Wood (born 1870 at Arnold) and they stated in the census that they had been married for 14 years. Albert is shown as being 19 years of age and a coal miner and the family were living at Furlong Street, after Alberts death the family were living at 9 St Albans Road, Arnold.
Private Albert Guy enlisted in Nottingham shortly after the outbreak of war and served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters.
The battalion was billeted in Le Bizet and as a whole, were in Belgium for the first time in the campaign. Private A. Guy, it is recorded, was unfortunately killed on the morning of the 30th April 1915, when an organ fell on his head while he was sleeping in his billet. He is buried at the Strand Military cemetery, Belgium
