.Thomas Eustace Preston was born in 1887 at Haxey, he was the son of John Thomas Preston a head teacher and Clara Preston, née Allender of Haxey village, Lincolnshire.
His father John Thomas was born in 1853 at Waltham on the Wolds, his mother Clara Barrand Allender was born in 1856 at Haxey they were married on 8th September 1880 at Haxey, they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census his parents are living at Haxey village, John Thomas 58 yrs is a head teacher, he is living with his wife Clara 54 yrs.
In 1911 census Thomas has left the family home, he lodged at 'York House' 20 Castle Gate Newark.
Thomas married his wife Grace Evelyn Woodcock (born 30th April 1886) on 7th January 1915 at Leicester, they lived at 24 Welland Street, Leicester.
Commencing 23rd August 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week.
Sapper Thomas Eustace Preston enlisted at Derby on 19th September 1914, giving his age as 28 yrs and 191 days, he was a telegraphist, he was residing in Leicester, he served with the 15th signal company, Royal Engineers. He died at Aldershot Military Hospital on 19th February 1915 from cerebral spinal meningitis and is buried in St Nicholas Churchyard, Haxey, Lincolnshire.
