Family history

David Doxey Walker was born on 24th Sepetember 1891 at Clay Cross, he was the son of James a farmer and Elizabeth Walker née Abbott of New Market Farm , Clay Cross.

His father James was born in 1855 at Bramton, Derbyshire, his mother Elizabeth Abbott was born in 1855 at Ashover, Derbyshire, they were married on 22nd December 1873 at Ashover, Derbyshire, they went on to have 12 children, sadly two were to die in infancuy or ealy childhood.

In the 1911 census the family were living at New Market Farm, Clay Cross, Jaems 56 yrs is a farmer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 56 yrs and their children, Susannah 30 yrs working at home, Charles Henry 21 yrs a farm labourer, David Doxey 19 yrs a farm worker and Peter 12 yrs a scholar.

David Doxey married Louisa Peppersday born 21st March 1887 Clay Cross, she died on 5th December 1913 she was 26 yrs of age, they were married on 19th May 1913 at the Chesterfield registry office. they went on to have a daughter Elizabeth Annie born 12th October 1913, she died on 2nd December 1913.

Military history

Private David Doxey Walker enlisted at Clay Cross, Derbyshire, he served with the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Sherwood Rangers, he landed in Egypt on 10th August 1915 and died on 6th September 1915 of dysentry, he is buried at Gibralter North Front Cemetery, Gibralter.
