Sydney was born in 1892 at Nottingham, he was the son of Samuel Cooper a cigar box maker and Jane Florence Cooper née Langham of 7 Croft Place, Peters Street, Radford.
His father Samuel was born in 1875 at Radford, his mother Jane Florence Langham was born in 1871 at Radford, they were married in 1894 at Nottingham, they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood,
In the 1911 census the family are living at 7 Croft Place, Peters Treet, Radford, Samuel 36 yrs is a cigar box maker, he is living with his wife Jane Florence 40 yrs and their children, Samuel 3 yrs old and Florence 9 yrs of age.
In the same 1911 census we find that Sydney has left the family home, he is Living at 12a Bright Street, Radford, he is 15 yrs of age and is a coal miner ganger he is living wth his grandparents Samuel Cooper 64 yrs agas worker a labourer and Margaret Cooper
Sydney married Maggie Beck (born 26th November 1892) on 27th June 1914 at All Souls Church, Radford, Nottingham,Sydney is 20 yrs a bachelor and a machine hand and was living at 41 Miall Street, his father was Samuel Cooper a joiner, Maggie Beck was 22 yrs old and a spinster, living at 17 Duke Street, her father was Robert Beck a miner.
They lived at 7 Gatling Street, Old Radford, Nottingham, they had a son Cyril born 15th April 1915
Commencing 25th November 1919 Maggie Cooper, was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week, she later resided at 13, Elm Rd., Skellow, Doncaster, Yorks.
Private Sydney Cooper enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Radford, he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 22nd March 1918 he is buried at Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, Farnce
